Ethical Transformation
The feeling remains an experience; the response becomes a commitment.
So the practice could be reduced to three questions: What value do I intend to live by? What action expresses that value? Will I do it regardless of what I am feeling? That makes the approach considerably more secular, disciplined, and action-oriented. The emotion doesn't need to be understood, justified, resolved, or eliminated. It simply doesn't get to determine the action.
